Use & tips for best results
-
Clean the surface thoroughly (remove dirt, oil and grease).
-
Apply at temperatures above about 15°C for optimized curing and better flexibility.
-
Use the product to seal seams (seam sealing), to repair small holes or spots (punctures) and to repair superficial damage. Make sure to apply thinly - the product is easy to apply in thin layers for less visible joints and faster drying time.
-
Allow the adhesive joint to fully cure before loading or exposure to moisture. Avoid stress or bending during curing.
-
Store the tube tightly closed and in a cool place - preferably in the freezer if not used often. This will prolong the life and preserve the consistency.
Aquasure FD vs Seam Grip WP - Which one should you choose?
| Aspect | Seam Grip WP | Aquasure FD |
|---|---|---|
| Consistency / thickness | Thinner, brushable/self-sealing | Thicker, more mass that can handle fuller patches |
| Surface / style of mending | Good for seams, thin joints, when the repair should be as smooth and discreet as possible | Best when you need to build up the repair - for holes, tears or where the material bends sharply |
| Load capacity & movement | Withstands movement, but the glue joint is thin and can wear faster under heavy mechanical stress | Very good resistance to bending, pressure and abrasion - flexes well without cracking |
| Compatibility of materials | Adheres to most woven materials and vinyl/polyester/nylon, not silicone/silnylon | Also adheres to neoprene, rubber etc - wider use where flexible mass is needed |
| Usage time & effort | Less product quantity, easier to apply thinly, faster to "paste" into seams | Requires more material to fill in damage, more preparatory work for larger repairs |
Guidance - Which one is best for you?
-
Choose Seam Grip WP if:
-
You need to seal seams, repair small holes, or do minor damage that doesn't require a lot of mass.
-
You want a discreet, thin glue joint that is not very visible and does not affect the flexibility of the material.
-
Your equipment is not subjected to extreme abrasion or severe bending during repair.
-
-
Select Aquasure FD if:
-
You have holes, injuries or tears where the adhesive joint needs to be robust and able to take a lot of movement and abrasion.
-
You need to fill a little more or build up the repair properly (not just superficial joints).
-
You repair neoprene, waders, rubber products or parts that bend and are subject to a lot of stress.
-
Conclusion
Gear Aid Seam Grip WP is a great choice for those who want a thinner, flexible and waterproof adhesive for seams and light damage - perfect for tents, packrafts and clothing. If, on the other hand, you have more severe damage or need something really robust that can withstand large movements and abrasion, Aquasure FD is a better choice.
