Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a packraft and an inflatable kayak?

An inflatable kayak is usually longer and more efficient for paddling on open water. A packraft is shorter, wider and much lighter, making it easier to carry on hikes and adventures.

When to choose packraft instead of kayak or canoe?

Packraft is best when you want to combine paddling with hiking, biking or fishing. It's easier to transport than a kayak or canoe, and suits adventures where light weight matters.

How stable is a packraft compared to other inflatable craft?

Packrafts are wide and float high on the water, making them very stable. They are often perceived as more stable than inflatable kayaks and floats.

Can a packraft be used in lakes, rivers and the sea?

Yes, a packraft works in most water environments. However, on the open sea and in strong winds, a kayak is more effective.

How much does a packraft weigh?

Most packrafts weigh between 2 and 5 kilograms. This makes them significantly lighter than both inflatable kayaks and canoes.

How long does it take to inflate a packraft?

With the included pump bag, it only takes a few minutes to inflate a packraft.

How do you pack a packraft and how small will it be?

A packraft rolls up easily and is about the size of a normal-sized sleeping bag. Perfect to carry in or on a backpack when hiking.

Do I need a pump or other additional equipment to use a packraft?

Yes, you will need a paddle and an inflation bag (the bag is included in the purchase of the packraft). Life jackets are always recommended. For longer trips, waterproof packing bags are also good to have.

Is the carrier comfortable to sit in during longer trips?

Yes, most packrafts have an inflatable seat and backrest. Comfort varies between models but generally they are very comfortable.

Are packrafts safe in rapids and flowing water?

Yes, packrafts are often used in whitewater paddling. They are stable and easy to handle, but proper equipment and safety awareness are important.

How durable is a packraft compared to an inflatable kayak?

Packrafts are made of durable material like TPU coated nylon and can handle rocks, branches and shallows better than many cheap kayaks.

What happens if your tube becomes damaged/puntured? Can you repair it yourself?

Small damages can be repaired quickly in the field. Quick repair kits such as the Stormsure inflatable Canoe & Kayak repair kit fix small holes and tears in case of an accident.

How much weight can a packraft handle?

Most packrafts can carry 120-180 kilograms. Some larger models can carry even more and are also suitable for two people or extra cargo.

Can children or dogs travel in a packraft?

Yes, many people take children or dogs in a packraft. Choose a model with a high load capacity and always think about safety.

Can you fish from a packraft?

Answer. Packrafts are very popular for fishing. They are stable, easy to move and give you access to places that are otherwise difficult to reach. Popular fishing models include the MRS Ponto and Anfibio Sigma TXLB+.

Is packrafts better than inflatable canoes/kayaks for fishing?

It depends. If you want to go far out into untouched nature and fish waters that no one has fished before, nothing beats a packraft. Our lightest packrafts weigh less than 1 kilogram.

How stable is a packraft when cathing fish?

Packrafts are wide and stable, allowing you to fish with confidence even when you hook bigger fish.

Which packrafts are best suited for fishing?

Sturdier models with plenty of cargo capacity are best for fishing. They provide space for equipment and allow you to sit comfortably for longer periods. Good examples are the MRS Ponto and Anfibio Sigma TXLB+.

How much does a packraft cost?

A basic model costs from around 4000 SEK (about 400 euro). More advanced packrafts with higher durability and extra features can cost over 15000 SEK (1500 euro).

How long does a packraft last in normal use?

With proper care, a packraft can last for many years. The materials are durable and easy to repair if necessary.

How to best store packing material?

Dry it thoroughly before storing. Store it in a dry and cool place, preferably rolled up a little loosely instead of tightly packed.

What material are packrafts made of?

Most are made of nylon fabric with a TPU coating, which makes them both durable and lightweight.

Which packraft should I choose as a beginner?

As a beginner, an all-round model is best. It works for short paddling trips, fishing and adventures on foot. Anfibio Rebel 2K, 3KL+ or MRS Microraft are safe cards. If you are looking for the absolute lightest we have, you should look at Anfibio Nano RTC.

Can people come to you to look at, or test, different Packraft models or other products?

Unfortunately, no. We currently have no such facilities. However, you can pick up items from us that you have purchased via the website, if you are passing by. Please let us know in advance.
