Werner Tybee FG 4-piece paddle – affordable quality for packrafting
The Werner Tybee FG 4-Piece is a versatile and sturdy paddle for those who want Werner’s well-known paddling feel at an attractive price. Its four-piece design makes it particularly well-suited for pack rafting—the paddle can be quickly broken down into short sections and is much easier to carry in a backpack or stow away during transport.
The Tybee FG incorporates several design features from Werner's higher-end paddles and combines them with durable fiberglass-reinforced nylon blades. The result is a paddle that offers good power, a stable feel, and high durability.
4-piece – perfect for packrafting and travel
Unlike the standard two-piece Tybee FG, this version is four-piece. That makes a big difference when you have to carry the packraft and paddle along with the rest of your gear.
On the 210-cm version, the blade sections are 56 cm long, while the two shaft sections measure approximately 78.5 and 69 cm, respectively. This makes the paddle significantly easier to transport than a traditional two-piece kayak paddle.
High-Performance Paddles for Active Paddling
The Tybee FG has medium-sized blades measuring 608 cm² and is designed for high-angle paddling. It is therefore particularly well-suited for an active paddling style with a relatively high cadence and crisp, efficient strokes—qualities that work very well in a packraft.
The blades are asymmetrical and feature Werner's dihedral profile, which helps distribute water evenly across the blade. This results in a stable and smooth paddle stroke with less tendency to flutter.
Durable fiberglass-reinforced blades
The blades are made of injection-molded, glass-fiber-reinforced nylon. The material was chosen for its combination of relatively low weight and high resistance to impact and wear.
It’s a great combination for packrafting, where the paddle is often used near beaches, rocks, and shallow water, and also needs to withstand being transported along with the rest of the gear. At the same time, Werner has borrowed the blade design from its more exclusive paddle series.
Carbon-fiber shaft
The Tybee FG uses Werner's Premium Carbon Straight Shaft, which contributes to a stiff and comfortable feel even though the paddle is part of Werner's more affordable Standard Performance series.
The center joint uses the Smart-View Adjustable Ferrule System, which allows you to adjust the angle of the blades; at the same time, the joint is designed to give the paddle a solid feel when assembled.
A great choice for pack rafting
The Tybee FG 4-Piece is an interesting middle ground between simpler entry-level paddles and significantly more expensive premium options. You get Werner’s blade geometry, carbon fiber shaft, and Smart-View system, along with the four-piece design that’s so practical for pack rafting.
It's especially well-suited for those who paddle on lakes, calmer rivers, and flowing waters and want a durable paddle that's easy to bring along on their trips.
