GAIA 4.0 - The world's first 3-in-1 packraft
The Gaia 4.0 from French Jaws is a premium packraft characterized by its extremely durable material and innovative "3-in-1" design. This means that the packraft can be quickly and easily configured in three different modes based on how the packraft will be used, for example, paddling in rapids, calmer water, wet climate, during warm calm days, etc. The packraft is mainly suitable for those who do not settle for anything but the absolute best - those who intend to use the packraft a lot and for a long time, in different types of adventures but perhaps also only for calmer paddling on lakes and rivers.
The GAIA 4.0 is not one of the lighter packrafts - its weight is 4.2 kilograms complete. Therefore, Gaia is likely to appeal to those who intend to use the equipment a lot and for a long time - those who want a very reliable boat that can withstand hard long-term wear and tear.
Three configuration modes - "3in1"
The packer is equipped with Jaw's innovative 3in1 system, which means that you can configure the packer in three different modes.
- "Closed mode" - For adventures exposed to the elements
Gaia is equipped with a removable canopy that can be easily removed when needed. With the hood on - closed position - you stay dry even in really wet conditions. The canopy also helps you keep warm on colder days on the water. The hood connects to the packraft via a high quality YKK zipper, and the rigid coaming/frame provides a tight transition to the accompanying skirt. This mode is ideal for expeditions, sea paddling or during the fall and spring seasons when weather conditions can change quickly. - "Open mode" - For calm waters and warm days
In open mode you paddle without a canopy. This mode is ideal for paddling in still waters, such as lakes, calm rivers and shoreline areas in fine weather. It allows for free movement and easier entry and exit. Paddling in open mode also means saving some weight by leaving the canopy, frame and skirt at home. - "self-bailing mode" - Especially for canoeing
The Gaia 4.0 is equipped with 16 waterproof plugs in the bottom that can be easily unscrewed - creating a self-bailing floor. This makes the GAIA 4.0 a very competent packraft for class 3+ canoeing. With a self-bailing packraft , you don't have to stop every now and then to bail out water - the boat empties itself automatically. Perfect for technical paddling, waves and rain. When paddling in self-bailing mode, we recommend a dry suit.
Design
The Jaws Gaia 4.0 comes with an inflatable floor that not only improves the load-bearing capacity of the packraft, but also gives the packraft a higher level of comfort. When paddling in self-bailing mode, the floor eliminates most of the direct contact with the water. When paddling with a dog, the floor provides extra protection against shocks from below, while insulating against the cold of the water.
The fully removable canopy protects against heavy rain and splashes from waves and paddles. The packraft is equipped with 8 attachment points all around, for lashing packing or for attaching carabiners with other equipment.
The seat is integrated into the inflatable floor, but a very comfortable adjustable backrest is included. In addition, the packraft comes with leg straps (mainly used for whitewater paddling) to increase control over the packraft in more technical paddling.
The valves in the floor and packraft are of the Leafield D7 type, a very reliable valve. The packraft is pumped like all other packrafts with the supplied pump bag, but can of course also be pumped with our small battery-powered pumps(sold separately).
The Packraft has 1 air chamber, unlike the "big brother" Gaia 4.0x which has two air chambers and a slightly coarser material in the tubes.
The packraft comes together with a fin that significantly improves the tracking/directional stability of the packraft. Gaia has two carry handles installed, one at the front and one at the rear.
The GAIA range has been tested in expeditions by the elite French high-alpine military group GMHM - proof that it stands up to the toughest conditions.
